Ibrahim Alkazi died of a heart attack in New Delhi. He initiated Natya Vidyalaya (National School of Drama – NSD)
through Nasiruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapoor, Om Piri, Sai Parnjape, Vijaya Mehata, Pandit styadeva Dubey, and many others.

Journey of Alkazi :

Alkazhi was born in 1925 in Pune. He joined the English theater company of sultan Padamsee the also known as Bobby. Then received his training in painting from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA) in London. After returning India He set up a ‘theater unit’. He performs a number of Western plays. In 1959, he led the NSD in Delhi.


He plays of Greek tragedy, Ibsen, Chekhov, Beckett, Moliere, Strindberg, and Shakespeare were taken from the students..
After retiring from Rashtriya Natya Vidyalaya, he started ‘Art Heritage’ in Delhi. He had a long association with the Progressive Artists Group in Mumbai in the sixties. He close ties with painters belonging to this group like Hussain, Raze, Suza, Tayyab Mehata, etc
