Achyut Madhav Gokhale (75), a senior chartered accountant, former chief secretary of Nagaland and former secretary in the Union Ministry of Unconventional Energy, has passed away. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1990 for his outstanding work in the field of Village Development Board and Jawahar Rozgar Yojana.
He joined the Indian Administrative Service from the Nagaland cadre.
Gokhale succeeded in raising the standard of living of the citizens of ‘Nagaland Empowerment of People through Economic Development’. While working as Joint Secretary in the Union Ministry of Rural Development from 1987 to 1992, he successfully implemented the Jawahar Rozgar Yojana. In 1992, he returned to Nagaland. He served as Commissioner of Agriculture and Chief Secretary of State.
While in Nagaland, Gokhale studied botany. He had taken pictures of the plants there.
