This is essential for the sustainable development of the country. As mentioned in Agenda 21, India needs to promote programs such as protection of human health, sustainable agriculture and rural development, water conservation, and integration between the environment and development.
Programs have been started for education, public awareness, and training on environmental protection. The participation of local administration and various organizations in this program is invaluable.
History of the Rio National Conference: The United Nations Conference on Environment and Development was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in June 1992 to discuss the environment and sustainable development of the 21st-century world, based on the report of the World Commission on Environment and Development. This is the first conference to discuss what should be the development policy in the context of environmental conservation.
Agenda 21: This conference is better known as ‘Earth Summit’ or ‘Vasundhara Shikhar Parishad’. At the same conference, which was attended by representatives of 150 nations, the ‘Agenda 21‘ agreement was ratified by the member states of the United Nations.
The agreement is a recognized “blueprint” for a sustainable social organization in today’s economically and environmentally unequal world. Agenda 21 contains the necessary provisions for the effective implementation of sustainable development policies at the local, national, and international levels in an objective manner.
