On October 21, 1959, 10 policemen patrolling a snow-covered and desolate hotspot on the Indian border in Ladakh were suddenly attacked by Chinese troops. The police were martyred in the attack.
October 21 is celebrated all over the country as’ Police Hutatma’ Day ‘to inspire others with their unparalleled bravery and to make them aware of their duty and patriotism. Ten Central Reserve Police Force personnel were killed in the attack.
Between September 1, 2019 and August 31, 2020, 264 police officers and police personnel from all over the country fell in the line of duty. Among them are Sub-Inspector of Police from Maharashtra Dhanaji Tanaji Honmane, Inspector of Police Riteish Devraoji Bhopre, Police Naik Sunil Mahadev Meshram, Police Naik Shahaji Baburao Hazare, Police Peon Kishor Laxman Atram.
