The ‘Oxygen Express’ will be run by the railways to alleviate the shortage of oxygen for medical use in the state of Maharashtra. For this, Central Railway will build a green corridor from Kalamboli to Visakhapatnam, Jamshedpur, Rurkela and Bokaro. The first Oxygen Express will run from Kalamboli to Visakhapatnam on April 19.
The Governments of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh have examined whether liquid medical oxygen can be used by railways.
The facility will be provided through ‘Roll on Roll Off’ (Row Row) service with road tankers parked on flat wagons.
