Jalashakti Award: For the rehabilitation work of Sangli Agrani river

The year 2019 was announced by the Union Ministry of Water Resources for the work in the water sector. The National Water Awards were announced, a total of 88 awards were announced in 12 different categories.

Sagali district of Maharashtra has been declared the first prize for the revitalization of Agrani river from the western region.

About Agrani river

Krishna’s tributary originates from Tamkhadi village in Khanapur taluka of Sangli district. 107 villages in five talukas of Sangli district come under this river valley. It also has a tributary called Mahakali.

Jalayukta Shivar Abhiyan

In 2013, the work of reviving the leading river started with the Jalayukta Shivar Abhiyan. The work was to re-flow 55 km. The leading river has flowed in Khanapur taluka on October 8, 2015 with a single return rain.

She was flooded in mid-2019. This year too, the river was flooded due to rains in late October. The once extinct river was flooded.
