Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar informed that eight beaches in the country have been recommended for the international environmental standard Blue Flag.
About the International Coastal Sanitation Day 19th Sep 2020:
Since 1986, the day has been celebrated in 100 countries. This day is celebrating every year on the third Saturday of September.
Beaches are given the international standard Blue Flag on 33 strict criteria.
This environmental standard is given for the purpose of providing clean water, a safe and healthy environment to the tourists visiting the beach, and also for the development of the area.
For the first time this year, the beaches at Shivrajpur in Gujarat, Ghoghala in Daman and Diu, Kasarkode, and Pudbidri in Karnataka, Kappad in Kerala, Rushikonda in Andhra Pradesh, Golden in Odisha, and Radhanagar in Andaman and Nicobar Islands have been selected.
