About INS Virat:
Retired aircraft carrier INS Virat, which has served in the Indian Navy for more than three decades, left for Gujarat on the Mumbai coast today for its final voyage. Virat will be taken to Alang, a cruise port in Gujarat.
The INS Vira, which entered the British Navy in 1959, was purchased by India in 1986. The aircraft carrier retired from the Navy on March 6, 2017 after nearly 30 years of service in the Indian Navy. Since then, Vira has been standing at the naval base in Mumbai. Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra were ready to turn this warship into a battlefield.
The Central Government’s May Scrap Trade Corporation has decided to award the tender to a private company, Shriram Group. The Shriram Group calculated Rs 38,154 lakh for this.
