Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the Atal Tunnel on 3rd October 2020. It is the world’s longest highway tunnel at 10,000 feet above sea level. The distance from Manali to Leh will be reduced by 46 km and the travel time will be reduced by four to five hours.
Information about Atal Tunnel
This tunnel is 9.02 km long. It connects Manali to Lahaul-Spiti. Now the transport will continue in all weather, the area was cut off from other countries due to six months of snowfall. It is built with the latest technology at an altitude of 3,000 meters or 10,000 feet in the Pir Panjal mountain range. The South Portal is at a distance of 25 km from Manali and at an altitude of 3060 m. The North Portal is located at an altitude of 3071 m near the village of Telling at Sisu in the Lahaul Valley. The project is estimated to cost Rs 3,300 crore.
