Leading Indian wrestlers Vinesh Fogat and Anshu Malik won gold medals at the Senior Asian Championships on Friday. The duo, who qualified for the Tokyo Olympics, has won gold medals at the event for the first time in their careers. Also, Divya Kakaran won a gold medal, but veteran witness Malik had to settle for silver.
In the women’s 53kg final, Vinesh defeated Chinese Taipei’s Mend Suan-sei 6-0.
Haryana’s 19-year-old Anshu defeated Mongolia’s Batset Atseg 3-0 in the 57kg final.
In the semifinals, Anshu defeated Sevhara Eshmuratova of Uzbekistan, who is at the top of the rankings on technical points.
In the women’s 72kg category, Divya defeated Zamila Bergenova of Kazakhstan 8-5. Last year, Divya had won the 68 kg weight category.
Witness, however, lost in the 65 kg weight class to Zoritan Bolortanglag of Mongolia.
On 15/04/2021, Sarita Morne (59 kg) won the gold medal, while Seema Bisla (50 kg) and Pooja (76 kg) won the bronze medal.
