The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has successfully developed an integrated crystal blade by developing a state-of-the-art technology under indigenous helicopter manufacturing.
What is a crystal blade?
Helicopters used in the field of defense require small, light but powerful aero engines to operate and survive in difficult combat situations. It requires a sophisticated single crystal blade. It was being manufactured in a handful of countries in the world like USA, UK, France and Russia, but now India has achieved significant success by producing this single crystal blade, which will give a big boost to the production of indigenous helicopters.
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited of India (HR) and Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) have developed 60 crystal blades for the engine of this helicopter. A total of 300 blades will be manufactured under this program.
