Dr. B. B. Gaitonde. His full name is Bhikaji Balwant Gaitonde. He recently passed away at the age of 94 in his native village of Banda (Dist. Sindhudurg).
He was awarded a unique scholarship from the same international organization for university visits, followed by the Rockefeller Scholarship of the United States.
In 1972, he became the director of the Halfkin Institute. At this institute, he researched advanced cholera vaccine, as well as medicine for typhoid fever. For this, in 1977, the highest prestige in the medical field, ‘Dr. B. C. He received the Roy Award and was accepted by the National Academy of Medical Sciences as a lifelong honorary member.
Working on the Southeast Asia Advisory Committee for the World Health Organization, and from that position, he has taken the initiative to coordinate snake bite treatment and research in South and Southeast Asian countries.
