April 18 is World Heritage Day with the aim of making people aware of the world’s heritage sites. In that connection, the Archaeological Survey of India had submitted a proposal to UNESCO for the designation of ‘Military Architecture in Maharashtra’ and ‘Craftsmanship in the Konkan as World Heritage Sites.
It has been accepted by UNESCO.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s hill and sea forts namely Raigad, Rajgad, Shivneri, Torna, Pratapgad, Lohgad, Panhala, Sindhudurg, Vivayadurg, Padmadurg, Colaba etc. The proposal says that it should be given.
ICOMOS, the International Conference on Monuments and Sites, worked tirelessly to establish World Heritage Day. His efforts finally paid off in 1982, and April 18 was chosen. The proposal was approved at the 22nd General Assembly of UNESCO. The central concept for this day this year has not yet been announced.
