This island known from prehistoric times. The island should be inhabited. This Iceland should known as Tumasik or Temasek. In the century of the fifteenth, the island came under the rule of the Malacca Empire. After that Singapore become the administrative center of the British. When the inauguration of the Suez Canal, boat travel. Then Singapore grew rapidly. During world war II Japan invaded the island. British again occupied when Japan is lost in the war. The first autonomous parliament was elected in Singapore in 1955. Singapore joined Malaysia as a constitutional state in 1963. August 9, 1965, Singapore became an independent republic.
